Project Details
The works proposed by council were as follows:
- Restoration and refurbishment of the dilapidated existing building
- Structural upgrades and strengthening of the heritage listed building to current code requirements
Challenge Faced / Engineering Problem Solved:
- Strengthening existing foundations and installation of new footings to account for high wind loads and earthquake stability
- Extensive repairs to corroded reinforcement in concrete walls
Safe Strong Stable Solution
Construction systems used included:
- Temporary propping of the existing façade for retention whilst repairs and upgrades were carried out
- New building foundations for shear walls and floor slabs
- Structural steel awning framing to act as bracing for the tall facade
