Project Details

• MPC were contracted by Richard Crooks Constructions via the demolition contractor, Novocastrian Demolitions, to conduct a thorough structural engineering assessment of the contractor’s proposed methodology for demolition of the existing “Bini Shell” structure

• MPC inspected the existing facility, created a structural model of the shell and its supporting framing, analysed and checked the structure for stability risk during each step of the demolition sequence, and summarised the process in a report. The shell was successfully and safely demolished in or about December 2018

Challenge Faced / Engineering Problem Solved:

• Other school buildings on the property, some heritage protected, were located in close proximity to the Bini Shell. Subsequently, a system of protective hoarding walls were nominated, and the demolition sequence was specified in such as way that ensured the structure collapsed inward on itself and not laterally onto adjacent buildings
