MPC were contracted to provide structural and civil engineering design services for this $9 million multi-storey development including two levels of underground basement carparking. Structural design of the development was carried out using 3D finite element software for modelling the buildings response to earthquake actions and for determining the effect on the structure due to mine subsidence design parameters set by the Mine Subsidence Board. MPC provided a concrete framed building system that provides a ductile structure whilst utilising reinforced concrete and blockwork shear walls to resist forces due to earthquake and mine subsidence. Post tensioned concrete floor slabs for suspended levels were considered cost effective, with their slim profile assisting in minimising foundation loads and maximising floor clearances.
