Charlestown Bowling Club
MPC were contracted by Bovis Lend Lease to undertake the structural design, documentation and site phase services for this $18 million project. This development was an entirely new club development including, new function rooms, bistro, poker machine and tab facilities, plus the construction of two turf bowling greens and an artificial bowling green suspended over carparking. The main floor level of the club was constructed using reinforced and post tensions suspended slabs and beams that were fully design and documented by MPC. The main access road to the club entry was also designed as post tensioned suspended slabs allowing for heavy vehicle loadings. The suspended slab systems were also designed in portions separated by expansion joints to assist with the control of thermal movements and allow for an articulated structure to satisfy mine subsidence design parameters. The main club structure consists entirely of structural steel framing that allowed the architectural profiles to be provided, with extensive glass elements incorporated into the structure.
